Obi Wan Kenobi (Full Series Review)

Image
The world of Star Wars has continued to grow Disney's acquisition of the property and the mind-boggling success of The Force Awakens that came with it. Despite having some hit or misses along the way, the franchise took a break from the movies and decided to solely focus on making live-action serial content on Disney Plus which started with The Mandalorian which is a hit on its own right. Now, after years of development at Lucasfilm, Dave Filoni and co. have finally brought back Ewan McGregor's iteration of Obi-Wan Kenobi back onscreen in the form of the character's own 6 episode miniseries event.  The episodes occur 10 years after Revenge of the Sith , where Obi-Wan is hiding in Tattooine, secretly keeping an eye on 10-year-old Luke Skywalker while keeping a low profile using an alias that should give some people the right idea as to who he actually is. But alas, nobody figures this out ever, not even Luke himself in A New Hope . The Empire is going strong as Darth Vad...

A Jurassic Sequel That Doesn't Digest Exciting, New Structures Well Enough (Jurassic World)

Image
65 million years ago, giant lizards ruled the earth but nature decided to kill them. 30 years ago, humans decided to play God by creating a park filled with Dinosaurs. Jurassic Park is considered one of the greatest films ever made. Like every successful film, Hollywood decides to make a large franchise out of it. So, two sequels were made, and although fan favorites, were less received nonetheless compared to the original which led to the end of the franchise. That changed when Colin Trevorrow was tasked with revitalizing the franchise through Jurassic World which at the time became one of the highest-grossing movies. Now, within its sixth installment, Jurassic World Dominion promotes itself as the epic conclusion to the Jurassic saga.  Dominion takes place 4 years after the events of the Fallen Kingdom where Isla Nublar is no more and Dinosaurs now roam the modern world, collapsing the ecological system. This all-new entry lives up to the title we were introduced to back in 2015 ...

Stranger Things 4 Vol. 1 (Spoiler-Free Review)

Image
Netflix takes us back to the Upside Down as our favorite teens are met with yet another monster that does not only threaten the residents of Hawkins but the human race itself. Stranger Things finally returns with its anticipated 4th season but this time in 2 volumes with episodes 1 through 7 are streaming now while 8 and 9 are left for July 1st, to amp up anticipation. Audiences may wonder why it was decided to split the episodes and it is most definitely because of their runtimes. Each episode runs for more than an hour. The shortest one happens to an hour and 3 minutes and it has been announced that the season finale, which is, unfortunately, a month from now, will run for 2 hours and 30 minutes. Essentially, this season slogs more like a 6-part movie.  The reason why these episodes are so long is because of the amount of narrative that is being portrayed this season. With four separate storylines coinciding with one another, it only makes sense for these episodes to be the behem...

Moon Knight (Full Season Review)

Image
The multiverse might be open but nothing beats horror more than chaos amongst the victims of a ruthless god's avatar. Marvel Studios adapts Moon Knight for Disney + in a 6 episode series, diving deep into slightly spookier and thrilling elements of the superhero genre. Last year, writing a review for each episode each week for a Marvel Disney + show was hectic which is why this time, I decided to review Moon Knight in its entirety by the end of its run.  Oscar Isaac leads this series as Marc Spector who has Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) when one has different personalities residing within him. The alter we meet on a weekly basis is Egyptian enthusiast, Steven Grant who dons a British accent while Marc is a Jewish mercenary who has a lot to hide. The series focuses on the two alters being the avatar for the Egyptian moon god, Khonshu. Whenever the story involves Marc's secret that hinders his connection with his ex-wife or a villainous Ethan Hawke attempting to reawaken y...

A Marvel Multiverse Adventure That Mostly Works (Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness review)

Image
Here we are with the next chapter of Marvel’s Multiverse saga finally within arms reach in the form of a Doctor Strange sequel.  Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is anticipated to not only be the box office movie to start off a strong summer movie blowout that was almost hindered by two years of a pandemic but is meant to be followed up and be the continuation of themes and stories that were heavily tackled in Spider-Man No Way Home and Disney + series like Loki and WandaVision . With a bunch of familiar faces and a fresh new one in the mix, this Strange follow-up promises to be as bonkers as stated in the title. The thing with Madness is that it does not feel or look like an MCU movie. Like  Eternals being a god-centric drama that showed off Chloe Zhao's directorial style, Madness most definitely feels like the horror movie made by Sam Raimi. It does also deliver the promise Kevin Feige made back at Comic-Con in 2019. As a horror outing, It can only mean ...

A Queer-Friendly Series That Will Get Your Hearts Beating Again (HEARTSTOPPER)

Image
Based on the hit WebToon comic turned bestselling graphic novel by Alice Oseman, this all-new Netflix adaptation of this queer phenomenon has finally reached our screens. After years of gaining such a loyal fanbase for Charlie and Nick, the infamous comic strips are now in a live-action setting to introduce this story to more audiences, ultimately expanding the fandom, or at least that's the hope. Heartstopper is a British rom-com told in eight 30-minute episodes... and it is not enough. The show centers around Charlie and Nick at Truham Boy's school. Charlie has been recently outed as gay at his school and constantly suffers being bullied by schoolmates while Nick is the star rugby player who ends up sitting with Charlie on the first day back at school. The two talk, connect and slowly fall for each other throughout these eight episodes.  In the midst of their romance blooming, we meet Elle, who is trans and recently moved from Truham to the neighboring girls' school, Hig...

Enough Magic and Secrets To Return To The Wizarding World (Fantastic Beasts and The Secrets of Dumbledore)

Image
Potterheads Rejoice! It's time to return to the Wizarding World as the secrets of one of the most famous wizads are finally revealed. After the first sequel where J.K. Rowling brought up so many new plotlines and a boatload of questions that confused her plethora of fans, there was some worry about whether the rest of the franchise would make it or ruin the 'magic' or that's how everyone summed it up, despite the Johnny Depp legal issues and Rowling's own controversy with transphobia.  The third installment of the Fantastic Beasts brings back Newt, Dumbledore, and the gang for yet another adventure against the notorious Gellert Grindelwald in furthering his plan to heed war between the magical and muggle worlds. Taking place a year later (or 3 years later according to reports. Just something to confuse you before entering the cinema) after Crimes of Grindelwald , this sequel bids itself as a heist film within the Harry Potter universe. But the real question is, doe...
