What If...? Episode 8: What If... Ultron Won? (Spoiler Free Review)

Now, that a part of me has somewhat gotten over Shang Chi (although not completely, since I plan to watch it again) but it's about time I reviewed the most recent episode of What If...? the penultimate part to next week's finale. To explain last week's cliffhanger, we see the origin of Ultravision who actually is Ultron himself. In this branch timeline, we witness what happens if Ultron succeeds in transferring his consciousness into Visions body without the Avengers interfering whicb allows him to take over the planet just as planned. But he does eventually take over the Galaxy as well after gaining the power of the Infinity Stones. This is where shit gets crazy.

This episode is basically what everyone expected Age of Ultron to be when the Avengers sequel first was released back in 2015 but were instead given an age that barely included Ultron. Instead, we were given the birth of Vision, a character who has sacrificed himself for the sake of the world - and occasionally Wanda - a countless number of times. The rumours were not true. The last two finale episodes will be half hour as apposed to what was said to be but it was my fault to take this rumour seriously. This large episode was unfortunately, one of the shorter episodes of the season. Thankfully, it was an enjoyable 28 minutes as it sets up the big threat that will bring together characters we've met in the last 7 weeks in it's upcoming end.

In this episode, we get to see a version of Ultron whom is brutal, war hungry and only cares of ridding the universe of organic beings, leaving his sentries to be the center of the universe. Watching Ultron wield the infinity stones and attempting to travel through and take over the Multiverse is probably the most threatening event to occur within the MCU since the Infinity Quest carried out by Thanos which lead to half of life all over the universe to disappear with a snap of alien fingers. I don't think Ultron will be as merciful as Thanos was.

We are finally given the chance to see Uatu, the Watcher that narrated the episodes these past weeks. He is finally in the flesh, in full silhouette and he too, is afraid of Ultron especially after last week's appearance. There's an epic scene between the two that Marvel fans will not want to miss. The episode also features a sublot that revolves on apocalyptic survivors, Natasha Romanoff and a robot armed Clint Barton, in hopes of making their final mission to shut down Ultron and his hive of sentries in Russia.

This week's What If...? was not as fluffy as last week's episode or as disappointing as the Marvel Zombies episode which is a relief. However, if next week's is said to be culmination of the 8 episodes we've seen previously, we are in for packed finale with a lot bound to happen which will either delight us or will be too short to appreciate. Gotta wait until Wednesday to find out.
