Hawkeye Episode 4 (Spoiler-Free Review)

This show gets better and better. Hawkeye episode 4 does not create the waves we expect it to (they are apparently saving that for next week's penultimate episode), but this latest installment to the last series of the 2021 Marvel Studios features a great narrative.

Episode 4 is easy to be considered as the filler episode amongst the 6 but there was nothing uncompelling about it, fortunately. This new episode gives us a quieter approach to the show as Clint and Kate connect for the sake of the holidays since Clint can't be with his family on the days leading up to Christmas. The episode features a montage of the both really considering themselves as 'partners' and this was touching to see, especially when it comes to Clint's struggle to open up to another 'partner' since he blames himself for Natasha's death in Endgame.

Pointing nods towards Clint's past and relationship with Natasha is apparently the main motivation for Clint's deep-rooted need to help Kate this time around. The writers using this catalyst as the driving force is heart-wrenching. This subtle theme within the show's narrative is possibly why fans are so invested in this character's larger arc as a member of the MCU and as a character finally headlining his own feature after years of fans asking for this.

This episode is considerably slow and of course, the action-consuming fans will be unattached to the episode until the last 7 minutes which features quite a number of nail-biting fight sequences (as well as something we didn't know we were expecting until it finally appears). The episode lacks any other character except the dynamic between the two main leads and a quick stab at a possible WTF dig towards Laura's, Clint's wife, past.

Luckily, the show is staying grounded as of now, but according to Trinh Tran and most recently, Bert and Bertie (directors of 104 and the upcoming 105), next week's episode which airs the same time as No Way Home, is supposedly the game-changing episode that supposedly will break the internet. What it is?  We don't know yet. It might even connect to the Spider-Man sequel. We will have to wait and see. However, the reveals in this episode alone were crazy and exciting enough. We, fans are eager to see what else is in store.
