Netflix's First Action Franchise - Probably (The Old Guard)

Image
Yet again, late to the party but I managed to enjoy this movie as much as the next person. From the poster above, you can see that I am talking about Netflix's latest action blockbuster, The Old Guard. Starring Charlize Theron, directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood.  Before I start rambling about how good this movie is, I found out - right after watching the movie - that The Old Guard is based on a comic book series with the same name created by Greg Rucka which further proves that movies based on comic books are the best pitch sales for scripts these days. Better yet, having a gay couple as the main cast shows how far the movie industry has come to showing that diversity and inclusiveness is better than ever with this movie.  Now, where was I? Right. I was about to tell you how good this movie was. Netflix has made many movies over the years, including action movies. Not many of them have been compelling but lately they have been with the likes of  6 Underground starring Ryan Reynolds

Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga

I could not think of a clever review title for this movie's review so, I just stuck with what the movie was called because it already sounded like it gives you a sense of what the movie already about. I did not get to watch this the day it was released but I finally got to watch it today and I surprisingly liked it more than I expected. Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga (Why is it such a mouthful?) is funny, quirky and as fun as you would imagine a Will Ferrel movie would be.  Fun fact; apparently Eurovision is a real singing competition that I did not know existed where Celine Dion competed in. This competition is based only in Europe and it is known to have performers that are eccentric and over the top.  Of course, a movie about a band participating in such a competition would have to be extremely eccentric and over the top. The Fire Saga, that comprises Lars, who has always dreamed of participating and winning the Eurovision contest and his partner, Sigrid, who ca

The Musical That Defined The Last Decade (Hamilton)

Image
Hamilton is the only live-recorded-from-Broadway musical I have ever seen and I do not regret watching it one bit. Hamilton has been a global phenomenon since its debut five years ago on the Broadway stage where the musical tells the story of Alexander Hamilton through a series of songs that comprised both the pop and hip-hop genre's and making the final product into a Tony winning musical that everyone is always dying to see whenever they head to New York. But, unfortunately, due to the corona virus, no tickets have been sold for the latest rerun of Hamilton. Thanks to Netflix's current competitor, Disney+, now features a live recording of Hamilton from 2016 and it is available to watch now. I know some of you are not Disney + subscribers but I know you guys watch movies somewhere, right? Wink, Wink.  And also, did I mention that Hamilton made Lin- Manuel Miranda a household name? Well, now you know why. He has contributed in writing the songs for Moana, starred in Mary Poppin
