Movies I Watched During The Quarantine (Part 2)

Yes.. if you have not read my last post, you know that I mentioned that I was going to be posting more stuff about Movies and Tv Shows I watched during the quarantine. My previous post was all about the movies that I watched that were released during the quarantine whereas this new post is about movies I have not seen before.

1. Arrival

Arrival released way back in 2016 and it was nominated for 8 Oscars at the 89th Academy Awards. Starring Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner and Forest Whittaker. Directed By Denis Vilvueue

Arrival takes place in the future (I guess) about Louise Banks, a Linguistics professor, who like the rest of the world, witnesses the coming of a bunch of UFO's hovering around different parts of the world. The Government decides to hire to figure out how to communicate with the aliens that reside in the ships and... that is all i can say for whoever that is reading this and has not watched this for that I do not wanna spoil you the rest of this super mind-boggling movie that I would recommend anyone to use their utmost brain power to figure out what happens in the end.

Arrival for me was pretty cool. I am not only a fan of sci-fi movies, but of movies that get me thinking or movies with rich plots that make my head want to explode from figuring out what is between the scenes and dialogue. Arrival is the best example for movies like that but other examples would include Inception and Interstellar (both coincidentally directed by Christopher Nolan and this was not.)

2. Social Network

The Social Network released on 2010 and was nominated for 8 Oscars and won 3. Starring Jessie Eisenberg, Andrew Garfield and Justin Timberlake. Directed by

I remember watching this ceremony wondering why people made a movie about the guy who made Facebook. I was not really into the Oscars back in the day because my favourite movies were never nominated, which always infuriated me but... years later, I am a movie junkie. As a movie junkie, it was apparently imperative that I watch this and I do not deny it one bit.

The plot is basically how Mark Zuckerberg gained fame and became the youngest billionaire, philanthropists in the world today. Nothing more, nothing less. The movie is so good, gripping, you cannot help but constantly keep paying attention. The catch, though, is that you cannot lose a minute of the movie for that the dialogue is amazing and Jessie Eisenberg as Mark is extremely exhilarating.

Unfortunately, Eisenberg did not win the Oscar and I think he deserved being nominated. Andrew Garfield was also amazing and shows that incredibility is worst way to lose money. Timberlake's first movie role that was not about being "Friends with Benefits" is great and shows that the singer is just as talented as an actor.

3. Super 8

Super 8 released on 2011 and I think this is the one of the most underrated sci-fi movies ever made, even if it was made by J.J.Abrams.

The film takes place in the 80's where a bunch film a short film for a local film competition and end up witnessing the biggest accident the town has ever seen. Coincidentally, the accident involves an alien stuck in a train container and the US Government trying to cover it up.

Super 8 was heavily compared to other family friendly sci-fi hits such as E.T. like how Stranger Things was compared to Super 8. The movie also gave stardom statuses to all the kids in the movie including Joel Courtney (recently seen in Netflix's Kissing Booth) and Elle Fanning ( recently seen in Netflix's All The Bright Places).

Not many people have heard of Super 8 but luckily, I have an uncle, sister and friends who have watched (and loved) this movie as much as I do.

4. The Fundamentals of Caring

The Fundamentals of Caring, unlike the other movies I watched, this is not a sci-fi movie whatsoever. It is a heartwarming drama that should be watched when you're in need of a good cry. Released on Netflix way back in 2016 and it has been in my Netflix list for a long while. I finally managed to watch it during the quarantine and I do not regret it one bit.

The story is about Paul Rudd's character who is hired to take care of Trevor ( Craig Roberts ) who suffers from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and decides to take him on a trip of his dreams where they meet Dot ( Selena Gomez ) who ran away from home to go on an adventure of her own.

This heartwarming tale is as underrated as it gets for that I have never heard of anyone who has watched it. The star of the movie is most definitely Craig Roberts, an absolute delight as the sexually frustrated teenager who suffers from a incurable disease, Trevor.

5. Game Night

Game Night released on 2018 and was directed by John Francis Dasey and Jonathan Goldstein, starring Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams amongst a ensemble cast.

I expected this movie to be somewhat of a sci-fi flick but it wasn't. It was a tribid of a mystery, a thriller and a comedy. The movie was hella violent as well as it was crazily fun. The movie is basically about a prank gone wrong. I shall not reveal more so.... watch the movie to find out more. I would definitely recommend watching this with friends on a Saturday-night sleepover where you and your friends can throw popcorn and yell at the screen.

The dynamic between Bateman and McAdams is, of course, the higlight of the movie, and it is also the few films that is just gory, you can't help but close your eyes sometimes.

6. Morning Glory

An oldie from 2010 and also another non sci-fi movie in the list is Morning Glory, directed by Roger Mitchell, starring Rachel McAdams, Diane Keaton and Harrison Ford.

This movie reminds me of a much more subtle, PG-13 version of the hit show, The Morning Show, currently streaming on Apple TV+. It's about an aspiring morning news executive who makes the least watched morning show into the most watched one. (At least I think that's what it was about).

Rachel McAdams was pretty good in this movie, I would say. The movie itself was driven and well paced and gives one the feeling to be more focused and passionate about what they want to do with their lives. (especially people aspire to be apart of the mass media world).

7. Adjustment Bureau

Another oldie from the year 2011, Adjustment Bureau was written and directed by George Nolfi starring Matt Damon and Emily Blunt.

I enjoyed this movie more than expected but was somehow underwhelmed by the time the movie ended. Adjustment Bureau is about Matt Damon's character who tries his best to get to know a ballet dancer, Emily Blunt's character but they apparently cannot be together because "It was written that way". OOOOOOOO.. Interesting, right?

The concept and motivation of the film was definitely undeniable and I was very excited about it. The ending, unfortunately, was something I did not expect or slightly did not like. But it is watchable, and Emily Blunt is in it, so, why the hell not?

If you're looking for  more movies... there will be another post about a few more movies I watched during the quarantine. I should be posting it soon. Keeps your eyes peeled till then.
