Loki Episode 4: The Nexus Event (Spoiler-Free Review and Spoiler-Filled Review)

SPOILER-FREE AREA

It is clear that the recent episode of Loki is one to remember. 'Nexus Event' had officially broken the internet by the time I had the chance to even watch the episode and it was for good reason. The episode the cast and creators have been teasing for us to keep our eye on is finally here. Episode 4 finally touches on the mind-bending parts of the show and with only two more episodes left in the season, it's hard to wonder what happens next.

Although fans predicted the outcome as of date what was expected has already happened. It is clear Kate Herron did indeed portray what fans want in this show but it is made clear that she is leaving the Marvel Studios ever-apparent pattern to drop the bigger bombs and plot twists for the final two episodes that are highly anticipated to blow fans minds.

As of this week, it is still a mystery as to who the real antagonist of this show is as well as who is the real protagonist which makes this Loki storyline a tier higher than the ones introduced in WandaVision and Falcon and The Winter Soldier. It might be too early to say but there is a possibility that Loki might end up becoming the better amongst all the Marvel-presented Disney Plus shows.

There's one thing I haven't acknowledged but should have since the show started and that is the musical score. Natalie Holt is a composer I have never heard of before but I am darn sure that I am going to be seeing her name way more often after her involvement in Loki. Her way of creating a theme for the TVA or Loki himself is fitting, extravagant, and unheard of, a quality that hasn't been well-perfected in the case of scoring Marvel properties (except The Avengers and Black Panther scores by Alan Silvestri and Ludwig Goransson respectively)

To summarize, episode 4 is the best so far and the best part is that we are far from over. This show is wacky and fun which is why I am living for it.

SPOILER AREA!!!!!

Be warned for further reading since there are heavy spoilers ahead.

As you guys know, at this part of the review, I talk about the more spoiler-y stuff of the episodes. And from the picture above, you probably know the bonkers direction they are going with the next episode of the show. We are on our way to meet all alternate versions of Loki and I cannot wait. However, this scene was only seen as a post-credit scene. There was so much more crap happening in this episode.

Last week, we learned from Sylvie that all TVA agents are in fact, variants from the "Sacred Timeline" and were taken out of it for some reason instead of the propaganda storyline we learned through the Miss Minutes video in the first episode. We explore that further in this episode with Hunter B-50 willing to reach out towards her past, with Ravonna Renslayer's sketchy past (we will get back to that later), and of course, with Mobius' DEATH. After Sasha Lane's character learned her true heritage from Earth, it was sought out by Mobius that she indeed had died but not by Sylvie's mind powers but by Renslayer herself, obviously ruining whatever plan she has if any TVA agent finally does acknowledge the fake-ness that surrounds the idea of the TVA. This makes us wonder what is Renslayer's deal.

Okay, now what bothers me is this. For some reason, Marvel is apparently going ahead with the idea that Loki and Sylvie - a variant Loki, might I add - are becoming romantically involved... or at least they are heading in that direction. I am not exactly a fan of this development of Loki's romantic life because I can vouch for everyone who loves Loki that we all want him to have a love interest, but for everyone to start 'shipping' these two is a tad too cringe-y. I might give into liking the pairing eventually and If I ever do, they better convince me sooner than never.

The big reveal of the episode is the Time Keepers and how they're not actually REAL. Like most superfans have suspected, The Time Keepers has been interpreted as the real leaders of the TVA when in reality they are just fake puppets and someone else is pulling the strings. This gets fans to start theorizing the possibility of the real villain being yet another Loki variant we are yet to meet that's meaner than every other variant or Kang the Conqueror. The only reason Kang is still a part of the theory list still is because of Ravonna Renslayer's involvement in the storyline since all of us comic book fans know Renslayer and Kang are the ultimate villain power couple.
