Haunting Of Bly Manor

Two years after Mike Flanagan scared our astral forms out of our bodies through the creepiness that was Haunting Of Hill House, he returns with yet another story which takes place in yet another creepy mansion with horrors waiting the moment you enter the doorway. The Haunting, I'm assuming, will be Mike Flanagan's answer to Ryan Murphy's American Horror Story for its anthological reasons and use of horror victims that writers and directors enjoy torturing with creepy visuals and haunting figures. Based on The Turning of The Screw and also other works by Henry James, Bly Manor is a guarantee better adaption of the source material compared to The Turning film that was released earlier this year starring Mackenzie Davis and Finn Wolfhard.

Haunting Of Bly Manor, unlike Hill House is basically filled with failed love stories that end tragically. Mentioned in interviews, Bly Manor will be as emotionally orientated as its predecessor but in the sense of romance instead of familial love and connection. Another theme steering away from Hill House was that it may have had its flaws while it was still a worthy and strong follow up. Bly Manor starts off with a millions of questions and throughout, answers are given only for more questions to be answered but fortunately, all is tied up by the end in a gothic-esque bow.

The best thing about Bly Manor is the stellar cast and their undeniable acting talent. After Hill House, Victoria Pedretti and Oliver Jackson Cohen returns in the second season as Dani Clayton and Peter Quint. Pedretti potrays the main role, Dani, a girl running away from her past, heading to London to become an au pair to two orphaned siblings who live in a big ass mansion in the town of Bly run by a housekeeper, a cook and a gardener. As Dani discovers more of the house, she also learns more about the people who resided and currently live in the manor. I shall not reveal more for that Bly Manor is filled with so much story, it's better not to reveal them unless you have watched it already in the last two days.

Now.. my opinion towards it. Long story short, Bly Manor although not as scary and creepy as Hill House, Bly Manor will still manage to keep you up at night, constantly afraid of what lurks behind you. And also gives you a fear of drowning ( Watch the show to know what I'm talking about ). All in all, Bly Manor is perfect for the Halloween season and fans of the Haunting will definitely enjoy this rich but complicating story. Haunting of Bly Manor is streaming now on Netflix.
