The Queen's Gambit

I'm so glad I am back to writing, especially writing a review about the most talked about tv show of the year. Queen's Gambit is the all new limited series that released on Netflix almost two weeks ago. Unfortunately, I got around to watch it this last whole week and I understand what everyone has been talking about. Before we get to that, this show is about an orphan, Elizabeth Harmon who gains an interest in playing chess and becomes a world-renowned chess player. That's the gist of it but there's more... not gonna say more. 

Queens Gambit has been garnering universal acclaim with a rare 100% score on rotten tomatoes alongside many reviews raving about the all new limited series. Watching it myself, the show is definitely gripping, left me on the edge of my seat and its the ultimate motivational story about becoming great at something nobody else expects you be great at. With 7 hours of content, creators Scott Frank and Allan Scott has made possibly yet another great tv show to binge on Netflix and has possibly made one of the best book-to-screen adaptations in a long time. (Yes, Queen's Gambit is based on a book written by Walter Tevis, not a true story). 

The show stars Anya Taylor Joy as the lead role and she manages to finally earn worldwide status after being so many movies that should have made her famous. 2020 although paused by pandemic, has been a great year  or Taylor Joy with the release of the latest adaptation of Jane Austen's Emma starring as the titular role then, starring as Illyana Rasputin/Magik in the Marvel/X-Men spin off, The New Mutants and finally, Queen's Gambit which further proves that this actress is not going anywhere and possibly might earn her very first Emmy or Golden Globe next year. 

The show also stars Thomas Brodie Sangster, who I haven't seen since Maze Runner: The Death Cure, another book adaptation as well as Harry Melling who has been having small roles since he played Dudley Dursley in the Harry Potter franchise. (BTW, he is all grown up). 

Queen's Gambit is definitely the show to watch this season and if you haven't, you are definitely missing out on what is great television. Other than the visually stunning sets and great costumes, this show has to top notch acting that has been brought to the table by all actors and it is worth watching during this second lockdown for it mind bending story.

Loki season 2 (Full season review)

With Marvel in a sort of whirlpool of viewers not having consistent reception towards the content, they seem to be missing a very important and well-done part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Loki lives up to that statement with its second season. Despite its new writers and directors at the helm, the show still showcases the best parts of Marvel's storytelling.  Taking place immediately after the end of season 1, Loki is dealing with the shenanigans of the TVA and the involvement of Kang variants with the release of the multiverse. It is up to Loki and co. (consisting of Mobius, Hunter B-5, and Casey) to deal with the consequences caused by Sylvie. The show still continues to be a trippy, timey-wimey time travel adventure but adds the Marvel-ous flair that made the franchise so memorable. Percy Jackson and The Olympians (Full Season Review)

  With the acquisition of the FOX properties, Disney had the chance to adapt to the world of Percy Jackson once again. However, unlike the last time, Disney makes an adaptation that lives up to the source material as well as embraces author Rick Riordan with production, casting, and various other factors that went into this show.  With this first season following suit of the first novel, The Lightning Thief, Percy Jackson and The Olympians of course, follows the titular character learning of his mythological parentage and what that means when he is thrust into this world as he grows older and more powerful as a demigod. When he is chosen to go on quest based on a prophecy, he enlists help from Annabeth Chase and his best friend/satyr, Grover to find Zeus's missing lightning bolt.  Anyone who has seen the film that was released 12 years ago would have a good idea as to what this first season will cover but people who haven't read the original book will know the many changes that
