The Iconic Frenemies Return in the Saddest Way Possible (Tom and Jerry)

One of the world's most famous iconic duo of frenemies was supposed to return in the big screen but with theatres closed almost everywhere... our home televisions will have to do. Tom and Jerry has been around for many years, entertaining both children and adults for quite a number of generations and this movie's aim, in a way was to introduce the all new generation to the infamous cartoon but somewhat fails to do so.

The Tom and Jerry film reunites the pair once again after Jerry messes with Tom's chance at making an income and as usual, the chase begins. This time, however, they run into a 20 year old Kayla (Chloe Grace Moretz) who struggles to look for a job in the Big Apple who so happens end up a main character in the movie as well. The three meet in a hotel and eventually the shenanigans begin as the hotel organizes one of the biggest celebrity weddings.

Okay, so... why did I think that this was the saddest and worst way to show off Tom and Jerry again was because the focus of the movie was not the dear Cat and Mouse chase we have accustomed to but the storyline arc of the Kayla instead. I think a month ago, Moretz starred in a film called Shadow In The Cloud where I praised her. In Tom and Jerry, she decided to shove away everything that made her talented actress into a overacting mess leaving me wondering 'What the hell is she doing?". Her awkward poses, movements and facial expressions had me wondering if she wanted be in this movie or not, acting for the sake of getting a paycheck.

Michael Pena and Ken Jeong were also featured in this film and the fact they did a better job in this movie compared to Moretz really says something.

The highlight of movie is, no surprise, the cartoony violence between Mr T and Mr J, a rivalry that has been going on for years, pointed out by Kayla herself. I did love the animation of this movie and the makers decided to stick with the decision of animating every animal in the movie for the sake Tom and Jerry. Everything else just seems like a sad excuse to make the movie run for an hour and 40 minutes, a time frame that might have been more fun if it had more Tom and Jerry and maybe been cut 30 minutes shorter.
