Kate (Spoiler Free Review)

For years, we have been given many amazing movies about badass women whom kill brutally from Angelina Jolie's Salt to Luc Besson's Anna. Last week, Netflix presents us Mary Elizabeth Winstead in her most violent role yet, playing the titular role of Kate. This action packed assassin thriller portrays a child turned killer, Kate sent by her handler, Varrick (Woody Harrelson) to murder a high-profile Japanese business man leaving his daughter to watch. 10 months later someone attempts and succeeds in poisoning Kate as revenge for her last murder as learning the victim's brother is a member of the Yakuza. Kate has 12 hours to avenge herself in an unforgettable night.

Kate is produced by David Leitch, as expected considering how bloody the fight scenes were, and the film manages to keep audiences hooked with this predictable journey as much as fans were entertained with the John Wick movies and Leitch's recent release, Nobody. Kate only suffers as it recycles the story of a child or in this case, a teen to soften the killers heart completely before the third act. However, how much this narrative keeps popping back, it still entertains audiences, even if critics have made exceptionally loud opinions towards it.

Winstead has proved herself in each role she stars in whether its in the classic Sky High, the mind-boggling Cloverfield Lane or appearing as The Huntress in Birds of Prey, she is one of the toughest actors in the business. I think its finally time to admit that Winstead has been one of my actresses for a very long time and she definitely delivers as Kate. Woody Harrelson is barely in this movie which is expected but disappointing because there is never a bad scene with him in it.

Kate promises an hour and 50 minutes of gun shooting, punching slicing of throats (all of which performed by Winstead) in the most satisfying ways possible in this knockout of an action movie albeit its familiar themes. For those who love action movies and Mary Elizabeth Winstead as much as I do, you will definitely enjoy this. Stream Kate on Netflix today.
