Netflix's First Action Franchise - Probably (The Old Guard)

Image
Yet again, late to the party but I managed to enjoy this movie as much as the next person. From the poster above, you can see that I am talking about Netflix's latest action blockbuster, The Old Guard. Starring Charlize Theron, directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood.  Before I start rambling about how good this movie is, I found out - right after watching the movie - that The Old Guard is based on a comic book series with the same name created by Greg Rucka which further proves that movies based on comic books are the best pitch sales for scripts these days. Better yet, having a gay couple as the main cast shows how far the movie industry has come to showing that diversity and inclusiveness is better than ever with this movie.  Now, where was I? Right. I was about to tell you how good this movie was. Netflix has made many movies over the years, including action movies. Not many of them have been compelling but lately they have been with the likes of  6 Underground starring Rya...

Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga

Image
I could not think of a clever review title for this movie's review so, I just stuck with what the movie was called because it already sounded like it gives you a sense of what the movie already about. I did not get to watch this the day it was released but I finally got to watch it today and I surprisingly liked it more than I expected. Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga (Why is it such a mouthful?) is funny, quirky and as fun as you would imagine a Will Ferrel movie would be.  Fun fact; apparently Eurovision is a real singing competition that I did not know existed where Celine Dion competed in. This competition is based only in Europe and it is known to have performers that are eccentric and over the top.  Of course, a movie about a band participating in such a competition would have to be extremely eccentric and over the top. The Fire Saga, that comprises Lars, who has always dreamed of participating and winning the Eurovision contest and his partner, Sigrid, w...

The Musical That Defined The Last Decade (Hamilton)

Image
Hamilton is the only live-recorded-from-Broadway musical I have ever seen and I do not regret watching it one bit. Hamilton has been a global phenomenon since its debut five years ago on the Broadway stage where the musical tells the story of Alexander Hamilton through a series of songs that comprised both the pop and hip-hop genre's and making the final product into a Tony winning musical that everyone is always dying to see whenever they head to New York. But, unfortunately, due to the corona virus, no tickets have been sold for the latest rerun of Hamilton. Thanks to Netflix's current competitor, Disney+, now features a live recording of Hamilton from 2016 and it is available to watch now. I know some of you are not Disney + subscribers but I know you guys watch movies somewhere, right? Wink, Wink.  And also, did I mention that Hamilton made Lin- Manuel Miranda a household name? Well, now you know why. He has contributed in writing the songs for Moana, starred in Mary Poppin...

Movies I Watched During The Quarantine (Part 2)

Image
Yes.. if you have not read my last post, you know that I mentioned that I was going to be posting more stuff about Movies and Tv Shows I watched during the quarantine. Arrival  Arrival released way back in 2016 and it was nominated for 8 Oscars at the 89th Academy Awards. Starring Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner and Forest Whittaker. Directed By Denis Vilvueue Arrival takes place in the future (I guess) about Louise Banks, a Linguistics professor, who like the rest of the world, witnesses the coming of a bunch of UFO's hovering around different parts of the world. The Government decides to hire to figure out how to communicate with the aliens that reside in the ships and... that is all i can say for whoever that is reading this and has not watched this for that I do not wanna spoil you the rest of this super mind-boggling ...

Movies I Watched during The Quarantine

Image
As we all know, all of us have been stuck at home for almost four months. We couldn't be able to meet with friends and family, to go the theater or have any human contact. Due to this, with the help of revolutionized technology, we had the ability to stream any show or TV Show any time we want (just as long as you had fast internet connection). During the quarantine, these were the movies I managed to watch. These are the movies that were released during the quarantine. 1. The Willoughbys  The Willoughbys was apparently an original animated movie about children with the worst parents ever. ( You think this is exaggerated but, they really are the worst). Released on Netflix, this vibrant animated feature, not made by Disney, turned out be charming and fun as most high calibre animated movies these days. The film also features Alessia Cara in her first acting job ever and she does as well most. By the way, she sings in it too. I mean, why not right?  Whoever that has watched it,...

Home (Not So) Sweet Home (Vivarium)

Image
Vivarium - an enclosure, container, or structure adapted or prepared for keeping animals under semi-natural conditions for observation or study or as pets; an aquarium or terrarium. According to Google. I had not heard of Vivarium until I saw the poster in my movie suggestions a few days ago. The poster intrigued me and it said that it started Jessie Eisenberg and Imogen Hoots. Immediately, I had to watch the trailer. Like the trailer promised, the movie was just all the way psychologically traumatizing. The film starts with an opening sequence of a bird pushing down a bunch other baby birds out of the nest to make room for her its hatchlings, leaving them to die. That should already give you a sense of what you are getting yourself into. Jemma and Tom are just like every other couple in the world, looking for a place to live in. They come across a real estate agent named Martin ( who undeniably and oddly lacks social skills ) who takes them to a suburban town called ...

Shadow and Bone Trilogy: Entering the Grishaverse

Image
This is my first book review. Better yet, my first book SERIES review. So, let's hope that I do an alright job at this. Now.. readers out there that love fantasy novels, you might love this trilogy of books I'm about to mention for that it is much different because it does not take place in ancient England like most fantasy novels do (fictional versions of England to be exact), it instead it takes place in a fictional country called Ravka which was inspired by Imperial Russia. Interested yet? Our story begins with two orphans with one of them being extremely important ( this is because she is the protagonist). Alina is the main character in this series and she is this prophecised "Sun Summoner" that is meant to "take away the darkness". Sound familiar? In the first book, she has two love interests. The first being her best friend, Mal. Obviously. The second being this man called The Darkling, a powered dude that can manipulate shadows or so...
