Discovery of WItches Season 2

For those who don't know what Discovery of Witches is, it's a BBC tv show that premiered its first season back in 2018 that is based on the All Souls Trilogy of books by Deborah Harkness. The show stars Teresa Palmer who plays Diana Bishop and Matthew Goode who plays Matthew DeClaremont. The story is about Diana, a witch who suppresses her magic and refuses to live in her witch legacy only for it to be forced out when a book called The Book of Life reemerges to existence and only Diana can call out for it.

Matthew is an ancient vampire who finds Diana, learns of her history, her potential and eventually falls in love with her which leads him to have the need to protect her no matter the cost and what the world thinks. The Congregation, a board of councils from all supernatural factions learns of Diana's ability to call out the Book of Life is now feeling threatened for that apparently this book has the witches first spells in them and rumour has it, one of the spells in the book has the ability to destroy creatures the witches made which includes made. And that is basically what season one is about.

Now, season 2 finally has finally released after a long wait and it is somewhat no at all what was expected. This is the only show currently that I happen to be watching and never read the books... even if I do have the trilogy in paperback in my bookshelf. Just haven't had the mood to pick it up with other books still in my to-read list. So, unfortunately I do not know what will happen next or have context to things that most people might be confused towards.

Season 2 honestly takes too long to reach its point and purpose that it becomes a chore to watch this extended second season (By extended I mean that this season has two extra episodes than the first season. You'd think that wouldn't make a difference but how wrong could one be).

The second takes place immediately after the first season and this time, BBC decided to release all 10 episodes in a day instead of releasing each episode every week like they did for the first season. This was a good thing because I got to watch it whenever I wanted without waiting for the next episode to release on another day but with the way this season was presented, you would have begged for a weekly basis episodical release.

All in all, it was great to see Diana and the gang go at it once again, this time with stories in parallel times. The problem for this season was that there were to many storylines and characters to keep up with. There was Diana and Matthew in 1590 London, Diana's aunts residing in the Sept Tour with Matthew's mother/sire, Marcus making a new lady friend and the Daemon family who befriended all of them last season. On top of all of that, there was also storylines running in the Congregation with the villain's story lines which included Gerbert and Peter Knox. Matthew's brother is also included although he maybe a wild card at this point, not knowing where his loyalties truly lie.

By the end of the last episode, you just feel relieved that the season is over and wonder to yourself, I should probably read the books before heading into the third season when it eventually comes out. (Yes, it has been renewed for season 3). Other than that, it was just fun to see the characters again and mysteries unfolding and more to discover in eventual storylines before tying all the loose ends in a thread of elemental of magic. (You would understand that reference if you watched this season).
