Monster Hunter

It's been a few years since the Resident Evil franchise ended and I have a feeling Milla Jovovich misses being badass. Also based on a video game, Monster Hunter is based on the Capcom hit that could possibly could be the next action filled, humor littered franchise, the way Resident Evil movies were. Paul W. Anderson apparently misses making creatures roar only this time using better CGI.

Unfortunately, Monster Hunter doesn't live up to the hype the studio has been pushing since it got delayed the first time last year. I didn't get to watch this in the cinema but instead in the comfort of my home which apparently was a suited choice considering I would have only enjoyed the first half of this movie in the theatres let alone at home.

The film started off fun, badass and rooting for Jovovich's character storyline. By the end of the middle act, you are wondering is it over. It did feel like an hour and a half after all. Turns out there's more and you have only passed an hour of the movie with 40 minutes to spare. The rest of the movie continues to look like a adventure movie that unfortunately does not last long with the addition of, I think are, famous characters from the video game for the sake of fan service and not properly developing the characters.

The monsters look great, there is a potential for a sequel if the studio has faith in it because there's no definite reason to rely on box office numbers since it was barely released in theatres around the world and also it was left with somewhat an open-ended ending and what looked like a post credit scene that made no sense.
