Joker

Fall is here and all new movies are raging through our cinemas for the sake of the chills and horrors of Halloween. A week late, I have managed to catch the controversial yet character-study worthy of a beloved and iconic character amongst DC's rogue of villains, Joker. Directed by Todd Phillips and starring Oscar nominee, Joaquin Phoenix.

Joker is what everyone would expect of from solo movie about the origins of The Clown Prince of Gotham, to be sad, depressing and absolutely bone-chilling. From start to finish, Joker was a masterpiece. It's dark tone and portrayal of the real world was disturbing but educational. Joker will definitely be very triggering towards some people but it's still worth the experience. Critics and fans all over the world are very partial about the movie. Half of the people find the movie beautiful while other half finds its disturbing and that it promotes violence. Whatever the world thinks, I think that movie is was very good at the same time, haunting. I came out of the theatre speechless. I had no words. I would consider it Joker the best comic book based movie this year alongside the epic crossover of superheroes that is Avengers Endgame.

For whovever that compares these two movies have no idea what both of these movies are about. These two movies are very different from its tone to its storytelling. Endgame was an end to a 10 year cosmic story that had to be filled with superheroes to do whatever it takes to save the world. Joker on the other hand is a story about a man who was sad and unpredictable and in the making of becoming the most psychotic criminals ever to live.

The star of the show is, of course, Joker himself, Joaquin Phoenix. He gave me goosebumps throughout the movie. He made me cry, he made me stressed and he made me scared. He made Joker his own by putting his own acting elements in the role without copying other actors that have played the famous Batman villain. Before this, I thought that Heath Ledger was the best Joker. Now, as much as I loved Ledger's portrayal many years ago, Phoenix knocks it off the ballpark and deserves all the praise that he is getting for this role making you think that maybe he was born to play the Joker.

Joker is yet another large step forward to the light for Warner Bros. and DC based movies. After so long of failed attempts, DC has finally found their footing and I cannot wait for more. I guess its alright that DC will not be continuing their shared universe for that we get more great DC movies without being bogged down by franchise world building. But who knows, maybe they will continue creating shared universe in the distant future and maybe they will finally have the courage and trust to do it right. But for now, let's celebrate Joker for being an amazing standalone movie and that people go to watch it. And also the possibility of it being nominated for a couple Oscars next year. It deserves the recognition.

I will be rating Joker an 8.8/10 for its amazing script, directing and unforgettable performance by the one and only, Joaquin Phoenix.
