Frozen 2
It's been
six years since the phenomenon that is Frozen came into our lives including the
song that came with it that haunted parents for a very long time, the Oscar
winning "Let It Go". Now, Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, Sven and Olaf return
for an epic new adventure that is equally as good as (and also somewhat
surpasses) the first one. The story expands the Frozen universe to a whole new
level of magical proportions while also keeping the franchise's familiar
footing.
This
sequel delves more into Elsa's purpose in life and the reason why she has her
powers. Questions that were raised in the first movie were answered. I don't
really remember if there more questions added to the pile because I was too
engrossed with everything about this amazing Disney sequel.
This is
the second sequel off a Disney movie that was not released direct-to-video. The
first being Ralph Breaks the Internet which I think exceeded alot of
expectations being even more enjoyable than it's predecessor. Frozen 2 has the
same formula by being better than the first movie by its sense of maturity and
tone.
Frozen 2
grew up along with its audience to deliver a much darker storyline and give
higher stakes towards its characters. These are characters that alot people
care about even if only its been one full length movie and two short movies.
So, when the arc of this story pits our 5 heroes against a much larger and
complicated threat, we will get worried. But it's a Disney movie. Nothing
really bad is going to happen. Right?
When the
trailers came out, I thought Frozen 2 was going to be less musical but I was
wrong. Everyone will be expecting a "Let It Go"-esque ballad to be
featured but the soundtrack features not one but a soundtrack full of
successors to "Let It Go" The true successor and the song that might
seem better but somewhat underrated towards the overrated "Let It Go"
is "Into The Unknown" performed by Queen Elsa herself, Idina Menzel.
Everybody else gets an epic solo as well which is freaking awesome. Olaf's
cutesie tune of him thinking that growing makes things less complicated is
called "When I Am Older". Kristoff gets a boyband ballad called
"Lost In The Woods" that gives you 80's to 90's vibes all through,
paying homage to famous band/group music videos. Anna sings her "I Dreamed
A Dream"-like ballad like a boss which is called "The Next Right
Thing". I can only imagine how Kristen Bell recorded that in the studio.
Other songs include "All is Found" performed by Evan Rachel Wood
(Westworld), "Some Things Never Change" performed by the Frozen
company and an all new version of "Reindeers Are Better Than People".
The
animation is one to marvel at. Frozen features the best visuals in Disney
animation history. Frozen 2 looks more like a Pixar movie compared to a regular
Disney 3D animated movie. From the details of the leaves and rocks to the
rushing waves, Frozen 2 raises the bar for 3D animation.
The Lion
King was considered the future of animation. Was it though? The movie was CGI.
Not animation. There is a difference. Computer animation is the
process used for digitally generating animated images. The more
general term computer-generated imagery (CGI) encompasses both static scenes
and dynamic images, while computer animation only refers to moving
images. So, this is the future animation. Period.
So, to conclude,
I would say that Frozen 2 is definitely worth the watch. Get tickets now and
experience Anna and Elsa's all new epic adventure through the autumn forests. I
will be rating Frozen 2 a 9/10 because I think it delivers as the perfect
sequel to a global phenomenon and the movie, without a doubt, lives up to the
hype.
